Very large antique Victorian oil painting portrait of a young gentleman in blue satin suit. English School, circa 1880-1900. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Heavy, elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a young gentleman in a blue satin suit and stockings, holding a hat. Size of frame: 47 x 35 inches; Size of canvas: 36 x 24 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 35.5 x 23.5 inches. Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks and scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame. Please note there was a large gash/tear to the canvas with a repair to reverse but the painting has had some restoration work to make good. Priced accordingly. Please note this item will NOT be packed up so please arrange for a courier that does not require it to be packed up. Please do not arrange for a commercial courier to collect as they will refuse to take it if it is not packed up. We do travel about in the UK from time to time so do ask if we are able to deliver for a small fee in the near (or not too distant!) future - perhaps a long shot but worth a try.
