Antique French oil painting study of kittens observing a rat swimming in a pan of milk signed A Stiasteny. French, circa 1900. Signed by the artist. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts no less than 6 kittens observing a rat swimming in a pan of milk - great subject matter! Size of frame: 25 x 20.5 inches; Size of canvas: 19.75 x 16 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 19 x 15 inches. Weight: 3.3 kg (allow 8 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. The antique wood of this item has had a significant woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly.
