Small antique wooden carved wall plaque panel - The Lion of Lucerne Switzerland. The original date and purpose of this panel is unknown, but it has some age. Circa 1910-30. Antique wooden carved wall plaque panel depicting the dying lion or The Lucerne Lion. The Lion Monument, or the Lion of Lucerne, is a rock relief in Lucerne, Switzerland, designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and hewn in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn (from Wikipedia). "Helvetiorum Fidei ac Virtuti" (Latin meaning "To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss") and "Die X Augusti MDCCXCII" (It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution). Size: 6 x 5 inches. Weight: allow up to 1 kg once packed. Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly.
