Antique Continental oil painting portrait study of Madonna and Child
Antique Continental oil painting portrait study of Madonna and Child.
Continental School, circa 1750-1800.
In the style of an Old Master.
Unsigned, artist unknown.
Oil on canvas. Gilt gesso frame (later than portrait, ie 19th Century).
Size of frame: 21 x 17 inches;
Size of canvas: 18 x 14.75 inches;
Size of front portrait aperture: 17.5 x 14 inches.
Weight: 1.8 kg (allow 7 kg volumetric weight once packed).
Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, an area of damage to canvas with a repair to reverse and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character.
Priced accordingly.
Best described as faded grandeur.
A little note about shipping:
This beautiful piece is very old, and its gesso plaster frame is naturally rather delicate. We will pack it with the utmost care to help it reach you safely. That said, it’s possible that fragments of plaster may loosen in transit — this is quite normal for antique frames of this kind. By purchasing, you’re accepting this small risk when shipping by courier. Unfortunately, I’m not able to offer refunds or returns for losses of gesso that may occur in delivery.
