Large antique signed Dutch landscape oil painting of cemetery. Continental, Dutch, circa 1880-90. Signed by the artist but signature tricky to decipher - possibly Van der Voort? Oil on canvas, laid on board. Elaborate gilt gesso frame (distressed) - very large and substantial heavy duty frame. Depicts a cemetery with mountains in the background, possibly the Alps. Size of frame: 25 x 20 inches; Size of canvas: 21 x 16 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 20 x 15 inches. Weight: 6.7 kg (allow up to 15 kg volumetric weight once packed). Tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, some staining and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier. No refunds will be available for this reason nor can the item be returned. This frame is extremely delicate and vulnerable to damage in transit, even with good packing. On this occasion, therefore, the painting is offered for sale alone and the frame does not form part of the price. The frame will, however, be included in the purchase for free.
