Large antique Scottish oil painting portrait of military gentleman. British, Scottish, circa 1580-1630. Elizabethan era. Unsigned, artist unknown. Some provenance on reverse: "Given by Capt Lumsden, Balmedie, Belhelvie, March 10th 1926". Place names are in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Depicts a gentleman in lace ruff collar. Oil on canvas. Size: 29.5 x 24.5 inches. Weight: 1.8 kg (allow 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Distressed condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and significant widespread flaking. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
