Large antique river landscape oil painting study of view towards Oxford with angler dated 1907 by J Buck. English, dated 1907 (on reverse of canvas). Actual painting is unsigned but there is provenance on reverse of canvas as follows: " View from Medley Weir toward Oxford July 1907 Early Morning J Buck". Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a river landscape with angler in the foreground and tower and church in the background - viewed from Medley Weir on the river Thames. Size of frame: 28 x 20 inches; Size of canvas: 20 x 12 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 19.5 x 11.5 inches. Weight: 3.6 kg (allow up to 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, some minor flaking and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
