Large antique oil painting portrait study of a lady in black dress and ringlets. English School, circa 1860-90. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas with board backing. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a lady in black dress with lace collar and black ringlets. Size of frame: 30 x 26.25 inches; Size of board backing: 23 x 19 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 21.5 x 17.5 inches. Weight: 7.2 kg (allow 15 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks and scratches, craquelure, some areas of damage to canvas and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame (particularly at one bottom corner). Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier.
