Large antique landscape oil painting of Monsal Dale Village, Derbyshire by William Highfield. English, circa 1910. Signed by the artist, William Highfield (British, 1870-1957). Monsal Dale is a valley in Derbyshire, England (provenance on reverse). Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Size of frame: 32 x 24.5 inches; Size of canvas: 24 x 18 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 23.75 x 16 inches. Weight: 5.3 kg (allow up to 15 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, some crackling to paintwork, some degradation to the oil paint in patches and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This is the second painting of a pair by William Highfield. Similar paintings by this artist are on display in Eyam Museum, Derbyshire.
