Large antique green Irish linen floral damask banquet tablecloth by Walpole & Geoghegan, Dublin. 100% Linen - damask floral pattern. "Irish linen—woven from flax fiber—is historically linked with Dublin, Belfast, and particularly Lisburn in County Down, known as the birthplace of Ireland’s linen industry". Dyed green. No 56 in corner plus emblems at corner (as shown). Would originally have been used for a banquet table in a country house. Maker's name is also at edge - sorry not shown - "Walpole & Geoghegan, Dublin & London": Linen and Damask Specialists. In 1862, Walpole & Geoghegan operated from Suffolk Street, Dublin, listed as "linen and damask manufacturers, house furnishing linen drapers, hosiers, outfitters, etc." Size: 144 x 86 inches - huge. Weight: 1.6 kg (allow up to 3 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age and use - some mark as shown but otherwise ok. Priced accordingly.
