Large antique French oil painting portrait of a minister (2 of 2) - collection from London UK only or ask for quote. French School. This portrait is undated but the other portrait in the pair has provenance on reverse of canvas - painted 18 August 1779. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a French minister in wig. Size of frame: 33.5 x 29 inches; Size of canvas: 30 x 25 inches; Size of front portrait oval aperture: 21 x 17.5 inches. Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks and scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame. Please note there is some damage to the frame as shown in photos - hence price is a little less than the other in the pair. The antique wood of this item has had a woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly. Collection highly recommended from Brockley, London SE4 or you are welcome to arrange your own courier within the UK. Please note that any collection/delivery will be at the buyer's own risk and expense. Please note this item will NOT be packed up so please arrange for a courier that does not require it to be packed up. Please do not arrange for a commercial courier to collect as they will refuse to take it if it is not packed up. We do travel about in the UK from time to time so do ask if we are able to deliver for a small fee in the near (or not too distant!) future - perhaps a long shot but worth a try.
