Large antique Dutch river landscape oil painting with sailing and rowing boats. Continental, Dutch, circa 1860-90. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame (distressed) - very large and substantial heavy duty frame. Depicts a river landscape with sailing and rowing boats at sunset. Size of frame: 25 x 21 inches; Size of canvas: 16.25 x 12.25 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 15.5 x 11.5 inches. Weight: 6.7 kg (allow up to 15 kg volumetric weight once packed). Tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
