Antique Welsh Victorian landscape oil painting with cottages by M Jacobi. British, Welsh, circa 1880-90. Signed by the artist, Martin Jacobi (born 1839). Name on plaque on frame. Some provenance on reverse: Cottages at Llan....., Wales" and an old label with some info on the artist. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a Welsh landscape with cottages, figures, lake and mountains in the background. Size of frame: 24 x 16.5 inches; Size of canvas: 16 x 8 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 15.75 x 7.75 inches. Weight: 3.1 kg (allow 7 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier.
