Antique Victorian still life oil painting study of comport of fruit. English School, circa 1850-80. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on board. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a comport with fruit (including grapes, peach and pineapple) and flowers. Size of frame: 16.5 x 14.5 inches; Size of painting: 12.25 x 10 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 11 x 9 inches. Weight: 900g (allow 3 kg volumetric weight once packed). Tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks and scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Best described as shabby chic. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality. Priced accordingly.
