Antique Victorian oil painting study of man with caged bird and dog looking on. English School, circa 1880-1900. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Gilt gesso frame. Depicts a man in hat with a caged bird, and dog looking on. Size of frame: 22 x 20.75 inches; Size of canvas: 14 x 13 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 12.5 x 13.5 inches. Weight: 2.3 kg (allow 7 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, significant craquelure, some minor flaking and some knocks to gilt frame but all part of its charm and character. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality. Priced accordingly.
