Antique Victorian oil painting servant girl pilfering wine entitled Caught by JA Davis 1878. English, dated 1878. Unsigned but provenance of artist on reverse. Oil on canvas. Depicts a servant girl sitting in chair with glass of wine, caught by her austere mistress. Size: 24 x 20 inches. Weight: almost 1 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, some paint loss and some quite significant damage to canvas with four repairs on reverse but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
