Antique Victorian oil painting portrait study of woman sitting in the kitchen with basket of eggs by Weatherhead. English, circa 1890. Unsigned but name is on frame: Weatherhead - William Harris Weatherhead (1843-1903). Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a woman in red shawl, long skirt and apron sitting in the kitchen with a basket of eggs beside her. Size of frame: 21 x 19 inches; Size of canvas: 12 x 10 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 11.5 x 9.5 inches. Weight: 3.8 kg (allow up to 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
