Antique Victorian oil painting portrait study of elderly lady at spinning wheel After Henry Dobson. English, circa 1870-90. Unsigned but thought to be After Henry Dobson (British, 1858-1928). Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts an elderly lady at spinning wheel with cat. Size of frame: 26 x 20 inches; Size of canvas: 19.25 x 13 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 18.75 x 12.75 inches. Weight: 3.2 kg (allow 8 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. The auction record for a painting by Henry Dobson is £5,000 (approximately $6,213). This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier.
