Antique Victorian oil painting portrait of senior lady in bonnet called Ann Bartram dated 1861 (1 of 2). English School, circa 1861. Unsigned, artist unknown. There is provenance on label on reverse as follows: "Mrs Ann Bartram, wife of William Thomas Bartram, she died 1861 aged 77". Oil on canvas. Gilt frame. Nicely painted portrait of a matriarchal older lady. Reminiscent of a character from a Jane Austen novel. Size of frame: 17 x 15.25 inches. Size of canvas: 14 x 12.25 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 13.5 x 11.5 inches. Weight: 1.3 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - there is some damage to the paintwork with two repairs to reverse, craquelure and bubbling to paintwork and some knocks to and pieces missing from gilt frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic.
