Antique Victorian oil painting portrait of a Jewish moneylender or rabbi. English School, circa 1840-60. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts elderly bespectacled Jewish gentleman in robe and hat with woman and child. Size of frame: 15 x 13 inches; Size of canvas: 10.5 x 8.25 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 9.5 x 7.5 inches. Weight: 1.3 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly.
