Antique Victorian oil painting of horse & cart outside an inn. English School, circa 1890. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on board. Gilt gesso frame. Depicts a horse and cart in the street outside an inn. Size of frame: 19.75 x 16.5 inches. Size of painting: 15 x 11.75 inches. Weight: almost 2 kg (allow 5.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. There are a couple of woodworm holes on reverse but these have been treated to eradicate. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the item cannot be returned for this reason.
