Some provenance relating to The Bargate: "The Pilgrim Fathers are closely linked with Southampton’s history. In August 1620, the Mayflower and the Speedwell set sail from Southampton’s West Quay. The passengers – later called the Pilgrim Fathers – had gathered in the town before beginning their voyage to the New World. It’s very likely they would have passed through The Bargate, since at that time it was the principal north gate into the walled town. From there they made their way down to the quay" (from ChatGPT).
