Antique river landscape oil painting of windswept wilderness. English School, circa 1890-1900. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Distressed elaborate carved wooden frame. Depicts a windswept wilderness with dramatic sky - painted in the Romantic style. Size of frame: 21.5 x 13.5 inches; Size of canvas: 16 x 8 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 15.5 x 7.5 inches. Weight: 2.1 kg (allow 6 kg volumetric weight once packed). Tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, lots of flaking and paint loss and some damage to canvas with a couple of repairs to reverse but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. As mentioned, there are areas where the antique paintwork has started to flake off from the canvas. Whilst every care will be taken with packing, I cannot guarantee that more flaking will occur in transit so please be aware of this before buying (and any such risk will be on the buyer). This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
