Antique oil painting study of gentlemen trying to calm a horse (2 of 2). English School, circa 1890. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on board. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a couple of gentlemen trying to calm a bolting horse they have just bought (see the first painting of the pair where they are inspecting it), leaving behind an upturned cart! Size of frame: 23.5 x 18 inches; Size of board: 15.75 x 10.5 inches. Size of front painting aperture: 15.5 x 10 inches. Weight: just under 3 kg (allow 7.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches with some damage to the canvas (ie several large horizontal scratches across the centre) but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier.
