Antique oil painting study of curly haired dog Bichon Friser or Poodle mix. English School, circa 1880-1900. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas laid on board. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a white curly haired dog, possibly a Bichon Frise or a Poodle mix. The detailed curls, compact build and light coat are traits often associated wit these breeds but I am no expert. Size of frame: 23.5 x 18.5 inches; Size of portrait: 19.75 x 14.5 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 19 x 14 inches. Weight: 1.9 kg (allow up to 6 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
