Antique oil painting portrait study of Shakesperian character Mistress Page from Merry Wives of Windsor by JE Worrall. English, circa 1900. Provenance on label on reverse: J.E. Worrall, "Merry Wives of Windsor", Act 11 Scene 1. Mistress Page - What Herod of Jewry is this? Oh wicked, wicked world". Oil on board. Gilt gesso frame. Depicts a senior lady (Mistress Page) in dress with red apron and white bonnet, holding a letter from Falstaff. Size of frame: 20 x 17 inches; Size of board at back: 12.25 x 9.5 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 9.25 x 6 inches. Weight: 2.2 kg (allow 7.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and some cracks, knocks to and pieces missing from gilt frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly.
