Antique oil painting portrait study of man playing Jews Harp attrib to Sir David Wilkie RA. English, circa 1830-1840. Attributed to Sir David Wilkie R.A. (1785-1841) - artist's name on frame but actual portrait is unsigned. "David WILKIE is an artist born in Scotland (United Kingdom) in 1785 and deceased in 1841". Provenance on reverse "Sir David Wilkie, Jews Harp". Oil on board. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a man in a tamoshanter playing a Jews harp with child. Size of frame: 17.5 x 15.5 inches; Size of portrait: 12 x 10 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 9.75 x 7.75 inches. Weight: 2.2 kg (allow up to 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and lots of knocks and cracks to gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly.
