Antique oil painting portrait study of gentleman and horses in stable In the Manner of Shayer. English, circa 1880-1900. Unsigned, artist unknown, but thought to be In the Manner of Shayer. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a gentleman with horses in a stable. Size of frame: 28 x 24.5 inches. Size of canvas: 20 x 14 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 20.5 x 16.25 inches. Weight: 4.5 kg (allow up to 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, some blistering to paintwork and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
