Antique oil painting portrait study of a startled horse. English School, circa 1840-80. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on panel. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Size of frame: 9.5 x 9.5 inches (back part of frame); 10 x 10 inches (front part of frame); Size of panel: 6.75 x 6.5 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 5.5 inches square. Weight: 683g (allow up to 3 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
