Antique oil painting portrait study of a lion. English School, circa 1860-80. Oil on canvas, laid on board. Wooden (oak) frame. Unsigned, artist unknown. Depicts a lion's face. This was probably originally part of a larger Victorian canvas but has been cut down and reframed circa 1920s (although the canvas is older). Size of frame: 22.75 x 22.75 inches square: Size of painting at back: 20 x 20.25 inches; Diameter of front aperture: 16 inches. Weight: 1.7 kg (allow up to 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly.
