Antique oil painting portrait study of a Biblical scene Ruth gleaning at harvest time. English School, circa 1870-90. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a scene from the Bible's Old Testament book of Ruth - Ruth gleaning in the fields of Boaz at harvest time. Size of frame: 21 x 17 inches; Size of canvas: 12 x 9 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 11.5 x 7.5 inches. Weight: 3.3 kg (allow 7 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks, scratches and scuffs, craquelure, some damage to canvas with several repairs to reverse and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
