Antique oil painting depicting Massacre of the Innocents in Gothic oak Oxford frame. English School, circa 1900. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on board. Gothic oak Oxford frame. A depiction of the Massacre of the Innocents - "The Massacre of the Innocents is the incident in the nativity narrative of the Gospel of Matthew in which Herod the Great, king of Judea, orders the execution of all male children two years old and under in the vicinity of Bethlehem" (Wikipedia). Size of frame: 15.5 x 13.5 inches. Size of painting: 11 x 9 inches. Weight: 600g (allow 3.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly.
