Antique landscape oil painting of Scottish loch signed H Bates. Scottish School, circa 1900. Signed by the artist. Oil (Gouache) on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame (more modern). Depicts a Scottish loch at sunset with sunlight on mountains and ducks. Size of frame: 32.5 x 20.5 inches; Size of canvas: 24 x 12 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 23.5 x 11.5 inches. Weight: 3.4 kg (allow up to 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and lots of flaking paint (gouache) but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. Lovely hues, an atmospheric scene. Best described as shabby chic. As mentioned, there are areas where the antique paintwork has started to flake off from the canvas. Whilst every care will be taken with packing, I cannot guarantee that more flaking will occur in transit so please be aware of this before buying (and any such risk will be on the buyer.
