Antique landscape oil painting of path through the woods attributed to David Cox. English, circa 1860-90. The actual painting is unsigned but has the name "D. Cox" on the gilt frame. Hence, attributed to or in the manner of David Cox (British, 1809-1855). Oil on board. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a path through the woods with shepherd and sheep in the distance. Slightly Impressionist in style. Size of frame: 17 x 15 inches; Size of painting: 16 x 13.5 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 11 x 9 inches. Weight: 2.2 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
