Tyzack, Sons & Turner Ltd. was a prominent tool manufacturer based in Sheffield, UK, renowned for producing hand and circular saws, agricultural knives, machine parts, steel, files, chisels, and plastering trowels. The company was established in 1870 following the division of the William Tyzack family business, with William Tyzack Jr. partnering with Benjamin Turner, who had married into the Tyzack family. The firm operated two main sites: the Abbeydale Works on the River Sheaf and the Little London Works in Heeley. Abbeydale Works, leased in 1849, functioned until 1933 and is now preserved as the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, a living history museum. Little London Works, acquired in 1876, was notable for its preference for water power over steam or electricity, maintaining a water-powered forge as late as 1926. The company’s trademark featured an elephant and the word “Nonpareil,” signifying unrivaled quality. They were pioneers in manufacturing discs for harrowing and ploughing, further establishing their reputation in the agricultural sector. In 1987, W. Tyzack, Sons & Turner was acquired by its rival, W.A. Tyzack & Co. Subsequently, the Little London Works were demolished in 1988, and the company was eventually broken up and sold off in 1991. Today, tools produced by W. Tyzack, Sons & Turner are considered valuable collectibles, reflecting the company’s historical significance and the high quality of Sheffield’s tool manufacturing heritage.“ Turned wooden handle.
