Antique Italian oil painting portrait study of monks cooking signed G Maresca. Continental, Italian, circa 1860-90. Signed by the artist, Giovanni Maresca, Italian, 19th Century. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame (more modern). Depicts two monks cooking with copper pan. Christie's auction label on reverse. Size of frame: 18.75 x 13.25 inches; Size of canvas: 15.5 x 10 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 15 x 9.5 inches. Weight: 1.36 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and some minor knocks to the frame and a small piece of gesso missing but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier.
