Antique German coastal landscape of sailing boats on the beach signed GRC. German School, circa 1850-80. Signed with artist's monogram GRC. Oil on canvas. Gilt frame (more modern). Label on reverse which reads: "Phillips W1 Mar 12 1973. Vessels high and dry beside a coastal fishing village. Signed indistinctly GRC? German School" ie sold at Phillips in 1973. Size of frame: 16.75 x 12.75 inches; Size of canvas: 12 x 8 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 11.75 x 7.5 inches. Weight: 1.3 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and some minor knocks to gilt frame but all part of its charm and character. The antique wood of this item has had a minor woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly.
