Antique Georgian or early Victorian townscape oil painting of Seven Stars Inn, Manchester signed CE Taylor. English, circa 1840-60. Signed by the artist, CE Taylor. Oil on canvas. Gilt frame. Depicts the "Seven Stars Inn in Withy Grove, Manchester. This is believed to be the oldest licensed public-house in Great Britain, and it has many historical reminiscences connected with it. The front portion of the house in Withy Grove retains much of its original character" (Wikipedia). Some townsfolk in foreground and horse and rider; factories either side. Size of frame: 16.75 x 12.75 inches. Size of canvas: 14 x 10 inches. Weight: 850g (allow 3.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and some knocks to gilt frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly.
