Antique Georgian oil painting portrait of Sir Christopher Hatton by FH Thompson. English, circa 1800-20. Signed, artist unknown. Depicts a bearded gentleman in formal attire. There is provenance on reverse of canvas: "Sir Christopher Hatton, FH Thompson". "Sir Christopher Hatton KG was an English politician, Lord Chancellor of England and a favourite of Elizabeth I of England. He was one of the judges who found Mary, Queen of Scots guilty of treason". Oil on canvas. Gilt gesso frame. Size of frame: 16.5 x 11.5 inches; Size of canvas: 14 x 12 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 12.5 x 8 inches. Weight: 1.2 kg (allow 6 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
