Antique Georgian oil painting portrait of a gentleman. English School, circa 1800-40. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on board. Elaborate gilt gesso frame (distressed). Depicts a gentleman wearing a red tunic. Size of frame: 17.25 x 15.25 inches; Size of portrait: 12 x 10 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 11.5 x 9.25 inches. Weight: 1.8 kg (allow 6 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks, scratches and scuffs to the paintwork and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic. Please satisfy yourself as to the condition before buying. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
