Antique Georgian oil painting portrait entitled The Miser signed C Hind dated 1823. English, dated 1823. Signed by the artist, "C Hind 1823" - visible on bank note. Oil on canvas. Gilt gesso frame. Depicts elderly bespectacled gentleman in red hat counting his money with money bag and keys, ink and quill. Reminiscient of a Dickensian character, similar to Scrooge, or a Shakesperian character, similar to Shylock. Size of frame: 25.75 x 23.5 inches. Size of canvas: 20.5 x 18 inches. Weight: 3.2 kg allow 7.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, the canvas has been re-lined at some point in its life onto a new canvas, and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the item cannot be returned for this reason. Priced accordingly.
