Antique Georgian landscape oil painting study of figures, horse and pig attributed to H Alken (1 of 2)

£950.00
Antique Georgian landscape oil painting study of figures, horse and pig attributed to H Alken (1 of 2). English, circa 1820-50. Attributed to Henry Alken (British, 1785-1851). Name on plaque on frame. Oil on panel. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a farmyard scene with figures, horse and pig. Size of frame: 15 x 13 inches. Size of panel: 11 x 9 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 11.75 x 9.75 inches. Weight: 1.8 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. In original frame, although this has had some restoration to remount it in its original gilt frame. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier. No refunds will be available for this reason nor can the item be returned. NB: The auction record for Henry Alken is £110,400 (approx. $ 144,877).
