Antique Georgian early Victorian oil painting study of young boys in goal prison. English School, circa 1840-80. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts four young lads in goal/prison with dog in attendance. Size of frame: 17.5 x 15 inches; Size of canvas: 14 x 12 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 14 x 11.5 inches. Weight: 1.5 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
