Antique Georgian early Victorian oil painting portrait study of woman in kitchen - shabby chic. English School, circa 1800-40. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Distressed gilt gesso frame. Depicts a kitchen scene with woman at work with her sleeves rolled up. Size of frame: 18.5 x 16.5 inches; Size of canvas: 14 x 12 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 13.75 x 11.5 inches. Weight: 1.2 kg (allow up to 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Very tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, lots of holes in the canvas, significant paint loss and chips to paintwork, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality.
