Antique Georgian early Victorian oil painting portrait study of a peasant man carrying sticks. English School, circa 1800-40. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on tin. Elaborate (distressed) gilt gesso frame. Depicts a peasant gentleman carrying sticks with cottage in the background. Size of frame: 19.5 x 15.5 inches; Size of painting: 14.5 x 10.5 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 13.5 x 9.5 inches; Weight: 2.2 kg (allow 7.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Best described as shabby chic. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
