Antique Georgian early Victorian oil painting portrait of senior lady in lace bonnet with book. English School, circa 1800-40. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Ornate gilt gesso frame. Nicely painted portrait of a matriarchal older lady in lace bonnet and collar, holding her book or Bible. Reminiscent of a character from a Jane Austen novel. Size of frame: 18.5 x 16 inches; Size of canvas: 13.5 x 11.5 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 13 x 11 inches. Weight: 1.25 kg (allow 7.5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, some paint loss and craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from the gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the item cannot be returned for this reason.
