Antique French still life oil painting study of planter fruit and jug signed A Joelens 1918. French, dated 1918. Signed by the artist. Oil on canvas. Gilt gesso frame. Depicts a planter, orange, apple and jug. Size of frame: 25.5 x 21.25 inches; Size of canvas: 21 x 16.75 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 20 x 16 inches. Weight: 2.7 kg (allow 7 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition, commensurate with age - quite damaged with various superficial marks and scratches paint loss, craquelure, several repairs to reverse and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. The antique wood of this item has had a minor woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic.
