Antique French river landscape oil painting with cottage. French, circa 1880. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Distressed elaborate gilt gesso frame. Size of frame: 25 x 21 inches; Size of canvas: 20.5 x 16 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 20 x 15.5 inches. Weight: 2.5 kg (allow 7 kg volumetric weight once packed). Distressed condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, small area of damage to canvas with repair to reverse and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but part of its charm and character. The antique wood of this item has had a minor woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur. Please satisfy yourself as to the condition before buying. This frame is extremely delicate and vulnerable to damage in transit, even with good packing. On this occasion, therefore, the painting is offered for sale alone and the frame does not form part of the price. The frame will, however, be included in the purchase for free.
