Antique French oil painting portrait study of the Crucifixion of Christ. French School, circa 1800-50. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Ebonised wooden frame. Size of frame: 28.75 x 21 inches; Size of canvas: 26.5 x 19 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 26 x 18.5 inches. Weight: 1.9 kg (allow 8 kg volumetric weight once packed). Distressed condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, flaking, lots of damage to canvas with numerous repairs to reverse and some knocks to and pieces missing from the ebonised frame but all part of its charm and character. The antique wood of this item has had a minor woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur.
