Antique French oil painting portrait study of lady with maid in boudoir. French School, circa 1800-50. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on panel. Distressed gilt gesso frame. Depicts a lady with maid and pug in attendance in boudoir. Size of frame: 16 x 12.75 inches; Size of panel: 12.5 x 9.5 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 11.25 x 8.5 inches. Weight: 1.12 kg (allow 3 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality. This frame is extremely delicate and vulnerable to damage in transit, even with good packing. On this occasion, therefore, the painting is offered for sale alone and the frame does not form part of the price. The frame will, however, be included in the purchase for free.
